Chapter 9 - THE LETTERS
The letters were incomplete. Several were returned unopened. One contained a handwritten note from Elaine asking Thomas not to appear at the house because Robert was threatening a custody fight. Another, written years later, asked Robert to stop intercepting correspondence intended for Jessica. The documents created questions but did not prove every accusation Thomas made.
Jessica’s first responsibility remained Emma. The mystery surrounding Thomas never became an excuse to minimize the slap or force a child to remain around an adult who had frightened her.
