Chapter 6 - The Gate Opens for Us Now

The Colorado estate changed after that.
The hose was removed.
The gate keypad replaced.
The driveway cameras upgraded.
The white stone pillars cleaned, though Samantha could still see the red-blue lights reflected across snow when she closed her eyes.
For months, she avoided the front gate.
Then one morning, she carried Hope there wrapped in a cream blanket.
Edward walked beside her.
Security stayed back.
The air was cold but not cruel.
Samantha stopped where she had knelt.
There was no snow now.
Only wet pavement from melted frost.
Edward said, “We can go back.”
Samantha shook her head.
“No.”
She looked at Hope’s sleeping face.
“This is where I learned I wasn’t alone.”
Edward’s eyes filled.
“I should have made sure you knew sooner.”
She looked at him.
“Yes.”
He accepted it.
No defense.
No billionaire speech.
Just yes.
That was how trust began returning.
