Chapter 6 - Use Everything

The trust investigation moved faster after that because public scandal loosens old locks.
Banks cooperated.
Foundation records opened.
Property vendors produced invoices they had once been told not to discuss.
The $4.8 million was only the confirmed amount at first.
More questionable transfers appeared later.
Richard had used Coralene’s trust as a private reservoir.
Foundation gala expenses.
Personal legal fees.
A vacation house roof.
Her mother’s jewelry insurance.
Eli’s consulting payment disguised as “security advisory preparation.”
Coralene read that line twice.
“So he was paid?”
Dalia nodded.
“Through a shell advisory contract.”
“How much?”
“Two hundred thousand.”
Coralene felt sick.
Eli had not merely agreed to control her.
He had been compensated for the attempt.
The military polish.
The medals.
The disciplined posture.
All rented by her father.
When confronted, Eli claimed he had believed the arrangement was legitimate.
Then investigators produced his email.
Public embarrassment may push her into compliance. Richard believes a physical scene would be unfortunate but useful if controlled.
Coralene sat in Dalia’s office when she read it.
She did not cry.
Something colder happened.
She placed the paper down and said, “Use everything.”
Dalia nodded.
“We will.”
The legal consequences came in stages.
Richard faced assault charges and financial exploitation claims tied to the trust.
Her mother was named in the civil recovery action and later faced her own exposure for knowingly benefiting from misappropriated funds.
Eli’s military career did not survive the emails, the hotel footage, and the consulting payments. He faced internal review, professional disgrace, and civil liability.
The family foundation collapsed under scrutiny.
Donors demanded audits.
Board members resigned.
The family name Richard claimed he was protecting became a headline beside words he could not control.
Trust Misuse.
Ballroom Assault.
Fraud Review.
Coercion.
Coralene hated the headlines.
They made her sound like a scandal.
She was not a scandal.
She was a beneficiary whose own family tried to turn inheritance into obedience.
That difference mattered.
The recovery of money took time.
Not everything came back.
Some funds had been spent.
Some hidden.
Some tied up in litigation.
But Dalia recovered enough to restore the trust’s core, freeze remaining family assets, and prevent further transfers.
Coralene moved out of the Vale family home the week after the gala.
She did not take the silver.
The portraits.
The antique chairs.

The framed charity awards.
She took her grandmother’s letters, her own documents, three boxes of clothes, and the black folder.
