Chapter 8 - Just a Mess on the Floor

And it was Lily, years later, standing in the kitchen after dropping a full cup of orange juice across the floor.
She froze.
Rebecca froze too, but only inside.
James reached for a towel.
Lily looked up at them, eyes wide.
Then James smiled.
“Well,” he said gently, “that’s sticky.”
Lily blinked.
Rebecca smiled too.
“Very sticky.”
Lily let out a tiny nervous laugh.
“I spilled.”
James knelt and handed her a towel.
“Then we clean it.”
Lily knelt beside him.
No shouting.
No belt.

Just a mess on the floor and a family determined not to pass down the old version of love.
