Chapter 1 - The Cruel Toast

The luxurious banquet room was the epitome of high-society grandeur, framed by towering white columns, dazzling crystal chandeliers, and long tables draped in pristine white linens decorated with fresh white roses and warm candlelight. Hundreds of the city's wealthiest elites, corporate executives, and socialites mingled in formal attire, sipping vintage champagne.

At the center of the grand elevated stage stood Adrian, a handsome man in his thirties wearing a sharp white tuxedo jacket, a black bow tie, and black pants. He held a crystal champagne glass high in the air, a smug, arrogant grin plastered across his face as he looked out over the crowd.

Beside him stood his wife, Eleanor. She was a stunning woman in her thirties, wearing a breathtaking white beaded one-shoulder evening gown. Her expression was completely silent, her posture still.

Adrian tapped his spoon against his glass, waiting for the room to quiet down before he delivered what he intended to be the ultimate public humiliation.

"Ladies and gentlemen," Adrian announced loudly, his mocking tone echoing through the microphone. "I want to raise a glass to my lovely wife, Eleanor. Everyone thinks marrying into wealth is a blessing... but let me tell you the truth. She is the most expensive mistake I ever made!"
