Chapter 7 - THE DEATH FILE

The death file was stored on Vale Senior Care’s cloud account. Victoria controlled it.

Drafts began six months earlier. Arthur had chronic heart disease, kidney impairment, and medication sensitivity. Any natural decline could become medically complicated.

Victoria built a narrative where I was involved in his medication. Why me?

Because my procurement career involved medical products. Not clinical care.

But outsiders might hear “medical supply professional” and assume competence. Then another forged email: Elena recommends simplifying Arthur’s pill organizer.

Fake. Another: Elena believes family can manage medication without outside nurse.

Fake. Then invoices from Vale Senior Care.

No licensed nurses employed. The company subcontracted aides occasionally, but Arthur’s $18,400 monthly “care” mostly flowed into management fees, mansion expenses, and Victoria’s personal credit account.

Financial exploitation. Then the medication issue.

Hospital toxicology showed a sedative prescribed to Victoria in Arthur’s system. Low dose.

Potential accidental mix-up. Could it have killed him?

At higher levels, risky. At measured level, not near lethal.

No attempted murder theory. Good.

Then pill organizer residue matched both Arthur’s medication and Victoria’s sedative. That supported careless or intentional mixing. Which? Evidence unclear.

Victoria claimed accidental cross-contamination by a household aide. The aide denied filling Arthur’s organizer.

Then Julian’s texts. JULIAN: Stop handling Grandpa’s pills yourself.

VICTORIA: Then hire someone. JULIAN: We pay Vale eighteen grand a month.

VICTORIA: Vale is paperwork. You know that.

There. Julian knew the care company was fake in substance.

Then: JULIAN: If he falls again, Elena cannot be anywhere near this. Victoria: She already is.

That line mattered. Julian knew I was being positioned.

Did he protect me? Not enough.

He did not tell me. He did not stop the forged certifications.

He did not expose Victoria. Then a later message: JULIAN: Delete the medication draft with Elena.

Victoria: No. JULIAN: I mean it.

Victoria: Then give me another clean witness. There.

My role had always been replaceable function. Then investigators identified another potential “clean witness.”

Julian’s cousin’s wife, Stephanie. She had signed two legitimate family documents.

Victoria had started collecting copies of Stephanie’s signature too. Stephanie was horrified.

No forged use found yet. The system was preparing a successor.

Then Arthur said why Victoria feared his death becoming messy. His estate plan had changed.

Two years earlier, Arthur secretly removed Julian and Victoria from direct inheritance of voting control. Where did it go?

A charitable foundation? Employees?

No. A trust benefiting victims of improper Hale property transactions if established through claims.

Extraordinary. Arthur had discovered enough to suspect wrongdoing and created a restitution mechanism.

Julian and Victoria learned only months later. That was why they intensified incapacity claims.

If Arthur was declared incompetent before the amendment date, they could challenge the estate change. Then my fake witness statements helped them establish earlier cognitive decline.

My identity was not only used to steal property. It was used to invalidate Arthur’s attempt to repair damage.

Then Arthur admitted he had not told me because he was ashamed of his own role. “What role?”

He looked away. “I signed some deals I should not have signed.”

There. Arthur was not pure founder victim.

He had benefited. Maybe knowingly.

The old man locked upstairs had also helped build the machine. The story became harder. Better. More truthful.
