Chapter 6 - THE COURTROOM

The courtroom did not care about the wedding aesthetic.
No chandeliers.
No projector.
No white roses.
Just evidence.
First:
forged post-marital authorization.
Digital examiner.
Signature copied from prenup acknowledgment.
Metadata.
Adrian’s laptop.
Second:
hotel footage.
Authenticated by device logs and Vanessa.
Third:
success-fee agreement.
Fourth:
Dr. Bell letter.
Fifth:
wedding videographer audio.
Then assault video.
Guest phone captured slap.
Clear.
Then prosecution.
Theory:
Adrian intended to obtain temporary voting authority through forged document in order to influence Carter Biomedical merger and secure personal fee.
Defense:
Draft document.
No finalized submission.
No completed fraud.
He claimed he planned to ask me to ratify next morning.
Then why signature?
“Formatting.”
That sounded absurd.
But legal intent matters.
Then email.
Adrian to Pioneer:
Authorization executed.
There.
Before wedding.
He represented it as executed.
Strong.
Then Pioneer had copy?
Yes.
He had sent.
There.
Attempted fraud.
Then defense attacked Vanessa.
Affair.
Money.
Jealous.
She admitted.
Then:
“Why should jury trust you?”
“They shouldn’t trust me because I’m good.”
Good answer.
Then:
“They should trust the recording because it exists whether they like me or not.”
That landed.
Then me.
Defense asked:
“You hated Vanessa?”
“Yes.”
“You threatened to expose her?”
“No.”
“You carried divorce papers into your wedding?”
“Yes.”
“You planned public humiliation?”
“No.”
Then projector.
“Did you load video?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because if Adrian tried to force me publicly, I wanted proof public.”
Maybe sounds revenge. Honest.
Then:
“You wanted to embarrass him.”
“Partly.”
There.
No perfect victim.
Then:
“Could that have provoked him?”
“It may have angered him.”
Then:
“Does that excuse slap?”
No need answer perhaps judge.
Then prosecutor redirect.
“Did you forge your own signature?”
“No.”
Simple.
Then Celeste.
She testified she told Adrian not to reuse old signature.
Good for her.
Then:
“Did you still help keep Evelyn’s attorney away?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because I wanted Adrian to persuade her privately.”
Then:
“Did you understand Pioneer fee?”
“Yes.”
Then:
“Did Evelyn?”
“No.”
There.
Then Dad.
Defense framed controlling father.
He admitted.
Then:
“Did you want Sterling to win?”
“Yes.”
“Did you pressure Evelyn?”
“I told her my opinion.”
Then:
“Repeatedly?”
“Yes.”
Good.
Then:
“Could Adrian reasonably believe you controlled her vote?”
Dad:
“He could believe anything. Her vote was hers.”
Good.
Then verdict.
Adrian guilty:
forgery,
attempted fraud,
identity-related offense,
domestic assault.
Acquitted one charge involving conspiracy with Vanessa? There wasn't. Maybe aggravated coercion count insufficient.
Then sentence:
three years custody plus supervised release and restitution.
Not enormous.
Then professional consequences.
Cole Strategic collapsed.
Clients left.
Pioneer terminated.
No finance license? He may not be regulated individually. Fine.
Then divorce final.
Then viral documentary interest.
I declined.
Then one unexpected issue.
Wedding venue sued for damage from projector lunge? Chair, equipment. Adrian paid.
Minor.
Then Celeste.
No criminal charges but civil settlement over Dr. Bell letter and interference? Fine.
Then public attacked her anyway.
I said:
“Do not invent charges because you dislike her.”
That surprised people.
Accuracy.
Then Vanessa.
People called her brave.
She said:
“I did one brave thing after many selfish things.”
Good.
Then me.
I started therapy.
Again.
Not because broken.
Because public attention.
Then one session:
“What do you regret most?”
I expected wedding.
I said:
“Going through ceremony after I knew.”
Then therapist:
“Why?”
“Because I wanted social pressure to disappear if I completed the expected part.”
There.
I had my own version of future peace.
If ceremony finished, then I could leave cleanly.
But life does not become easier because you complete the ritual.
Then I forgave myself slowly.
May you like
One juror later told the prosecutor—not me directly—that the copied signature mattered more than the affair footage. I understood why. The affair was betrayal, but private. The forged authorization tried to turn betrayal into authority.
It was the difference between hurting someone and legally speaking in their name.
