Chapter 10 - Always Open

Before blowing out the candles, Lily looked at Marcus.

“Do you know what I wished?”

“You’re not supposed to tell.”

“I make my own rules.”

“Clearly.”

She smiled.

“I wished that if anyone ever closes a curtain on me again, I remember I can open a door.”

Marcus swallowed hard.

Then smiled back.

“That’s a good wish.”

She blew out the candles.

Everyone clapped.

Not too loudly.

Not like a performance.

Just enough.

Inside the house, blue curtains moved gently in the open window.

May you like

Open.

Always open.
