Chapter 1 - The Shattered Glass

The luxurious holiday gala ballroom was a breathtaking spectacle of extreme wealth and high-society opulence, illuminated by cascading crystal chandeliers and filled with the gentle, warm glow of hundreds of flickering candles. At the center of the massive room stood a towering, impeccably decorated Christmas tree, surrounded by elegant tables draped in rich red linens.

Amid the bustling ballroom, the elite guests mingled smoothly, dressed in their finest tailored tuxedos and designer gowns.

Standing in the center of the crowd was Celeste, a thirty-something woman wearing a glamorous red sequined evening gown, her blonde hair styled in a flawless, elegant updo. She was the CEO of the hosting corporation, and she carried a delicate crystal champagne flute in her hand.

But her attention was not on the party. It was locked onto a man standing near the edge of the ballroom.

Luke was a man in his forties, looking completely, undeniably out of place. He wore a worn, dark gray canvas coat over a simple dark hoodie, holding the hand of his eight-year-old son.

Without a single word of warning, Celeste purposely lost her temper. She aggressively flung her right hand downward, violently and deliberately smashing her expensive crystal champagne flute directly onto the polished hardwood floor right in front of Luke's boots.

As the glass shattered into a hundred sparkling pieces, Celeste instantly turned her arrogant, mocking gaze toward Luke, raising her voice to publicly humiliate him in front of the surrounding wealthy guests who had stopped to watch.
