The church closed for six months.
Not because of scandal alone.
Because the board discovered how deeply Whitmore Foundation money controlled operations.
Pastor James resigned.
A new board created financial transparency rules.
The vestry where Nora had been locked became a legal-aid office.
The projector remained.
Amelia insisted.
Not as a symbol of revenge.
As a tool.
The first public program held there taught families how guardianship, medical coercion, and financial abuse could hide inside respectable systems.
Nora led one session.
Amelia led another.
They did not become instant sisters.
Trust grew slowly.
Nora still resented Amelia for loving Caleb.
Amelia resented Nora for withholding information.
Healing did not require pretending those injuries vanished.
It required speaking before silence hardened.
The gold pen was displayed inside a small case near the entrance.
A plaque read:
CONSENT CANNOT BE FORCED, HIDDEN, OR PURCHASED.
Amelia disliked the drama of it.
Then a young woman stood before the case and began crying.
Her fiancé controlled her accounts and demanded she sign a business agreement at their wedding.
