Chapter 1 - Take Your Foot Off the Doctor

Logan Weller slapped Dr. Elena Park at 2:17 in the morning because she refused to abandon a dying patient for his girlfriend.

The sound cracked through the bright hospital corridor outside Trauma Bay 6.

A nurse gasped.

A monitor screamed behind the open trauma-room door.

Elena’s head snapped sideways, and the sting spread hot across her cheek. For one second, the fluorescent lights blurred above her.

Then she dropped to one knee.

Not because she gave up.

Because Logan had already shoved into her space, grabbed her forearm, and yanked her away from the doorway with enough force to leave finger marks.

“Treat my girlfriend now,” he snapped.

Elena tore free, planted both feet, and blocked the trauma bay.

“He’s crashing,” she said. “Step back.”

Logan’s eyes went cold.

He wore an expensive charcoal suit, dark hair perfectly styled, face twisted with the entitlement of a man who had never been told no without someone apologizing afterward.

“You work for my father.”

Then his shoe pressed against Elena’s upper shoulder and forced her backward against the floor.

Not a stomp.

Not a kick.

But enough pressure to humiliate her in front of her own nurses.

Enough to trap her between pain and duty while the monitor behind her screamed faster.

Elena gripped his trouser leg and pushed against his shoe.

“You’re endangering a patient!”

Down the corridor, a muscular man in a tactical jacket stood beside a Belgian Malinois in a working harness.

The dog was rigid.

Disciplined.

Watching.

A small red light blinked on the man’s body camera.

Logan noticed too late.

The former Navy SEAL stepped forward once.

The K9 moved beside him and gave one low growl.

The man’s voice was quiet.

“Take your foot off the doctor.”

Logan froze.

His shoe lifted slowly from Elena’s shoulder.

May you like

The confidence drained from his face as his eyes locked on the blinking red camera.

For the first time that night, Logan Weller understood that his father’s hospital might not be able to erase what everyone had just seen.
