Ryan’s first wife was named Claire Brooks.
She disappeared twelve years earlier.
Officially, she left after a divorce.
No forwarding address.
No social media.
No known employment.
Ryan said she struggled with addiction.
Detective Reed found no divorce decree.
No treatment records.
No travel history.
But she found a guardianship petition.
Ryan had tried to declare Claire incompetent.
The petition described paranoia, emotional instability, and obsessive accusations about money.

Claire owned property inherited from her parents.

A search of Ryan’s old construction warehouse uncovered a hidden room.
Inside were women’s belongings.

Identification cards.
Medical records.

Ryan kept documents he could use if anyone returned.

At trial preparation, prosecutors debated whether Rachel should receive a plea.
She could testify about Ryan’s methods.

Ethan asked Reed what justice required.
Reed answered, “Not what feels best. What tells the fullest truth and prevents the next child.”
Rachel accepted a plea for fraud, neglect, evidence concealment, and conspiracy.
