Chapter 5 - No Deal

Outside the boardroom, Marissa was still waiting near the hall, pretending to study a portrait.
When Callum came out alone, she rushed toward him.
“Well?”
He did not answer.
Hannah stepped out behind him, wearing Mr. Doyle’s gray jacket over her muddy dress, barefoot, hair damp but face controlled.
Marissa looked at her.
Then at Callum.
“No deal?”
Hannah answered.
“No deal.”
Marissa’s face tightened.
“You’re seriously going to ruin him because he didn’t help you up?”
Hannah looked at her for a long moment.
“No, Marissa. I’m going to let him fall without stepping back.”
Callum flinched.
Good.
Let him hear it.
The divorce began within a week.
Callum tried to claim ignorance.
He said he did not know Hannah’s connection to the Mercer estate.
That was true.
It did not help him.
He said the mud incident was accidental.
Mr. Doyle’s security footage showed him stepping back when Hannah reached for him.
He said Marissa was merely a business associate.
Photos from the SUV, hotel receipts, and texts proved otherwise.
He said Hannah acted emotionally and destroyed a legitimate acquisition out of spite.
The Mercer board released a formal statement:
The offer was rejected due to financial instability, concealed debt exposure, and misrepresentation of buyer intent.
No mention of mud.
No mention of mistress.
No need.
Financial truth cut cleaner in public.
Private truth came later.
The security footage leaked anyway.
Not from Hannah.
Not from Mr. Doyle.
Probably from someone on Callum’s side who thought it would make her look weak.
It did the opposite.
The clip showed Hannah falling into the mud.
Callum walking away.
Marissa laughing.
Then Mr. Doyle opening the gate and calling her Miss Hannah.
By morning, the internet had named it the Mud Gate video.
Hannah hated the name.
Then she saw one comment from an older woman:
The moment he didn’t help her up, the marriage was over.
Hannah saved that one.
