Chapter 5 - She Kept Walking
A year later, Audrey finalized the divorce.
She restored her name fully: Audrey Hart.
Dominic lost more than a marriage.
He lost the public image that had protected him.
Paige testified in the civil case after Dominic tried to claim Audrey was unstable. She admitted he had lied about the marriage, fertility results, and the weekend timeline.
Audrey did not forgive Paige.
But she accepted the truth.
Sometimes that was enough.

Audrey refused to use his fertility diagnosis as public revenge.
In court, it mattered only because he had lied with it.

And yes, part of it was.
But Audrey knew the deeper truth was quieter.
It was waking up in her own apartment without listening for Dominic’s keys.
It was keeping the ultrasound image in a drawer lined with soft cloth.
It was learning that grief does not disappear just because the person who caused it is gone.
It was trusting her own memory when someone else tried to rewrite the room.
And it was the day she walked past a maternity ward, heard a newborn cry, and did not break.
