Chapter 1 - I Streamed the Confession

Rebecca Morrison Ashford was kneeling inside a black metal dog cage when Sienna Vale started recording.
The cage sat in the center of the penthouse living room like a trophy.
Black-and-white marble floor beneath it.
Crystal chandelier above it.
Floor-to-ceiling windows behind it, showing the city glowing cold and blue beyond the glass.
A silver dog bowl sat near the cage base.
Cedar shavings were scattered across the floor.
The humiliation had been designed carefully.
Not by accident.
Not in anger.
Carefully.
Rebecca was six months pregnant, barefoot, shaking inside the cage in a cream silk slip dress and loose satin robe. Her dark wet hair clung to her cheeks. Tears streaked her pale face. A black collar circled her neck, fastened with a heavy padlock.
Both hands covered her pregnant belly.
Sienna leaned toward the bars in a red satin gown, blonde waves perfect, phone raised, smile bright with cruelty.
“Look at you,” she said. “The billionaire’s wife belongs in a cage.”

Clayton Ashford stood behind her near the windows in a black suit and open white shirt.
Rebecca’s husband.
The father of the baby inside her.
He watched.
He did not help.
Sienna tapped one manicured nail against the bars.
Rebecca flinched.
The cage rattled softly.
A tiny movement passed through Rebecca’s belly. The baby kicked, and she instantly pressed both hands tighter over herself, protecting the only person in the room she still trusted.
Clayton stepped half a pace closer.
His jaw was tense, but his eyes were cold.
“You should have signed the papers when I asked.”
Rebecca looked at him through the bars.
The papers.
The psychiatric consent.
The spousal asset waiver.
The private medical release.
The document that would allow Clayton to claim she was unstable before the baby was born.
The document that would let him control her money, her body, her pregnancy, and the child’s inheritance.
Sienna smiled wider and angled the phone toward Rebecca’s face.
“After tonight,” she whispered through the bars, “everyone will think you lost your mind.”
Rebecca’s breathing changed.
Sienna did not notice.
Clayton did.
Only barely.
Rebecca’s eyes lowered to the small diamond pendant half-hidden against her chest beneath the robe.
Her fingers slid under the edge of it.
One press.
A tiny blue light blinked under the diamond.
Clayton’s face tightened.
Sienna’s smile faltered.
Rebecca lifted her chin.
Tears still shone on her face.
But the fear had drained from her eyes.
Her voice came quiet.
Deadly.
“You filmed the cage,” she said. “I streamed the confession.”
Clayton froze.
Sienna lowered the phone.
“What?”
A distant elevator chime sounded outside the penthouse entrance.
Clayton’s face collapsed into panic.
Rebecca stayed kneeling inside the cage, one hand over her belly, the other holding the glowing pendant.
She looked straight at her husband.
May you like
“Now open the door before they do.”
For the first time that night, Clayton Ashford looked less like a billionaire and more like a man who had heard the lock turn on his own life.
