Mara stood in the back, arms crossed, eyes wet.
Oliver, now a toddler, sat with a caregiver near the side aisle, chewing on a toy dinosaur and ignoring the entire speech.
Rebecca loved that most.
Her son was bored by the worst night of her life because he was safe enough not to understand it yet.
Years later, people still told the dramatic version.
The luxury penthouse.
The black metal dog cage.
Rebecca kneeling inside with both hands over her pregnant belly.
Sienna leaning close in the red satin gown.
Look at you. The billionaire’s wife belongs in a cage.
Clayton standing by the windows.
You should have signed the papers when I asked.
Sienna lifting the phone.
After tonight, everyone will think you lost your mind.
Then Rebecca’s finger pressing the diamond pendant.
The tiny blue light blinking.
You filmed the cage. I streamed the confession.
The elevator chime.
Clayton’s panic.
