Chapter 6 - He Started Calling Me Unstable During Arguments

The first time Grant used my therapy against me, we were arguing about:
money.
He wanted me to transfer:
$75,000
from an inherited brokerage account into his company as a short-term loan.
I said:
“No.”
He stared.
“We’re married.”
“Yes.”
“Your father’s money is sitting there doing nothing.”
“It is invested.”
“You know what I mean.”
“I don’t want it in your real-estate deal.”
He became angry.
Then said:
“This is why I’m worried about you.”
I laughed.
“Excuse me?”
“You’re making emotional financial decisions.”
“No.”
“I’m saying no.”
“You’ve been unpredictable for months.”
There.
My grief entered:
business.
I said:
“Do not use my therapy against me.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m concerned.”
Concern is one of the easiest disguises for:
control.
After that, every serious disagreement eventually reached:
Claire’s mental state.
If I was angry:
dysregulated.
If I cried:
unstable.
If I raised my voice:
proof.
If I went quiet:
withdrawn.
There is no winning once one person gets to define all emotional responses as:
May you like
symptoms.
