Chapter 4 - THE SECOND PREGNANCY

Lauren survived because Dr. Ellis recognized the cardiac pattern early.
The toxin damaged her kidneys but did not kill her.
Federal investigators raided Northstar’s recovery apartment.
They found restraints, medical records, forged consent forms, and video feeds from the mansion.
Marcus had watched the foyer confrontation from more than one device.
He knew Dad had the evidence.
He knew the security officers would intervene.
He wanted the arrest.
Why?
Because custody triggered discovery.
Discovery triggered the prenatal genetic file.
The revelation would destabilize Dad, me, and the trust.
Marcus had planned for the truth to emerge at the most damaging moment.
He did not merely hide secrets.
He scheduled them.
Aunt Evelyn was found at a Northstar maternal residence in Connecticut.
She was twelve weeks pregnant.
She refused to terminate the pregnancy.
No one asked her to.
The issue was consent.
Mine.
Dad’s.
Hers.
The clinic told her the embryo came from anonymous donors and had been legally assigned to her through a family restoration agreement.
She knew one donor was connected to Harrison blood.
She did not know both identities.
When told, she stared at Dad.
“You always got everything.”
“This is not getting anything.”
“You got the company. Father’s trust. The board. Chloe.”
“I raised Chloe after her mother died.”
“You raised an heir.”
The old family wound had found modern technology.
Aunt Evelyn believed the trust favored Dad because he produced a child.
She had no children.
She saw the embryo as justice.
Then she learned the baby would not legally belong to the Harrison trust automatically.
Marcus had lied.
The contract named Northstar Family Continuity Fund as temporary guardian if she became medically incapacitated.
Marcus’s private company controlled the fund.
He planned to take the child too.
Aunt Evelyn’s anger shifted.
Not toward Marcus alone.
Toward herself.
“I signed because I wanted what he promised.”
That sentence linked every woman in the case.
Lauren.
Vanessa? Not in this story. Keep to Lauren and aunt.
Me, though I had not knowingly signed.
We had all been given different versions of family.
Each version benefited Marcus.
Then federal agents found a third document.
The maternity contract Lauren mentioned.
It covered all Harrison-line pregnancies connected to Northstar.
My pregnancy.
Aunt Evelyn’s.
Any future embryo transfers.
The agreement created a “continuity committee” with authority during medical crises.
Members:
Marcus.
Dr. Cross.
Adrian Cole, Harrison Capital’s chief financial officer.
And one independent family representative.
William Harrison.
Dad’s signature appeared.
He denied signing.
Forensic review found the signature genuine.
Not forged.
The date was three years earlier.
Before Marcus married me.
Dad remembered signing a broad medical-research partnership with Northstar.
The maternity contract had been buried inside a two-hundred-page appendix.
He had not read it fully.
The man who taught me never to sign without review had done exactly that.
His signature gave Northstar access to stored genetic material and family medical data.
Not lawful consent for embryo creation.
But enough paperwork to confuse courts and clinics.
Dad had opened another door.
He accepted that too.
Then Adrian Cole disappeared.
CFO.
Board insider.
The person who could change page nine inside the family office.
His office was empty.
His computer wiped.
His private plane missing.
But he left one safe unopened.
Inside were bank records showing Marcus had paid him twelve million dollars.
Not cash.
A future share of the Northstar acquisition.
Adrian switched the prenup page.
Prepared Dad’s incapacity filing.
Approved maternity transfers.
Then one more record surfaced.
A life-insurance policy on me.
Fifty million dollars.
Owner: Harrison Capital.
Beneficiary: Northstar Continuity Fund.
Dad did not know it existed.
Adrian signed on behalf of the company.
Marcus countersigned as spouse.
My death had become acquisition financing.
Then Aunt Evelyn’s doctor called.
Her pregnancy was not stable.
The embryo had implanted near scar tissue.
She needed surgery.
Northstar refused to release her full records without committee approval.
Marcus was in custody.
Cross had vanished.
Adrian had fled.
Dad’s old signature remained the only active authority.
The document he signed without reading now gave him the power to save his sister.
But using it could validate the entire maternity contract.
May you like
If he signed, Northstar would argue the agreement was real.
If he refused, Aunt Evelyn and the unborn child could die.
