Chapter 11 - Daniel and Vanessa Had to Decide Whether Their Marriage Existed Without Elena as the Enemy
Daniel and Vanessa remained separated for nine weeks.
Not because:
the wedding embarrassment alone.
Because once Elena stepped back, they lost their favorite shared conflict.
For years Vanessa said:
“Your mother interferes.”
Daniel said:
“I know.”
Daniel said:
“Mom always knows better.”
Vanessa:
“Exactly.”
Complaining about Elena became:
intimacy.
Then Elena stopped booking.
Stopped calling.

restaurant arrangements,
room upgrades,
financial rescues.
Daniel and Vanessa were left with:

Therapy became less convenient.

Vanessa moved back after nine weeks.

family support.
No accepting substantial family benefits without:
both knowing.
No using Elena as:
the explanation for problems that belonged to their marriage.
Most importantly:
No loyalty tests.
If Daniel defended Elena when she was right, it did not mean:
he loved Vanessa less.
If Vanessa disagreed with Elena, Daniel did not need:
public cruelty
to prove:
marital loyalty.
