Chapter 8 - The Christmas Miracle

"You can't do this to me!" Darla shrieked hysterically, completely losing her arrogant composure. "It's Christmas Eve! I have eleven years with this company!"
"Then you should have learned how to treat people in those eleven years," Jude replied coldly, nodding to the security guards. "Escort her off the property. Do not let her back in."
Darla was dragged out of the lobby, crying and screaming, her reign of terror permanently ended.
Hadley stood in shock, holding sleeping Mae. She had never seen anyone stand up to Darla.
Jude turned back to Hadley, his terrifying CEO persona vanishing completely.
"You don't have to clean the fourth floor anymore, Hadley," Jude said softly.
Hadley’s heart dropped. Even though Darla was gone, she assumed she was still being fired for breaking the rules. "I understand, sir. Thank you for everything you did tonight."
"You misunderstand," Jude smiled gently. "I'm not firing you. I’m promoting you. Darla’s position as Head of Night Operations is empty. I want you to take it. With full benefits, a massive pay raise, and free on-site daytime childcare at the corporate office."
Hadley stopped breathing. Her knees literally buckled, forcing her to grab the security desk to stay standing.
"You... you’re serious?" she sobbed, completely overwhelmed.

"You are honest, Hadley," Jude said, his voice thick with respect. "You take responsibility, and you protect the people you love. That’s exactly the kind of leadership this company needs."
