The atmosphere in the country club had shifted from a glamorous party to a terrifying corporate execution.
Vanessa, standing in her royal blue gown, physically staggered backward. Her hands flew to her face in utter, unadulterated panic.
She had begged Mark to do this. She had wanted the dramatic, public reveal to secure her place in high society and officially take Claire's throne. She thought Mark was a brilliant, invincible billionaire who could afford to humiliate his wife.
"What is she doing?!" Vanessa whispered in shock, her eyes darting wildly around the room as the wealthy guests began to pull out their smartphones to record the disaster.
Sitting in the front row was Mark’s seventy-five-year-old mother, Margaret.
Margaret wore a lavish lavender formal gown, bouncing the three-year-old secret son on her knee. She sat completely frozen, her jaw hanging open in absolute disbelief. Margaret had known about the affair. She had known about the secret grandson and had actively helped Mark hide the betrayal from Claire.
Margaret had fully supported this public humiliation, believing Claire was too weak to fight back against the powerful family.
