Chapter 5 - The Financial Guillotine

Mark was sweating profusely, his burgundy tuxedo feeling like a suffocating straightjacket.
"Claire, tell her to stop!" Mark hissed desperately, completely abandoning his arrogant facade. "This is insane! We can handle this privately!"
"You wanted everyone to be a witness, Mark," Claire replied softly, her voice completely devoid of any human empathy. "So let them witness."
Emma lowered the microphone slightly, locking eyes with her father. The innocent little girl was gone, replaced by a cold, absolute maturity that terrified him.
"And there's something else on here that even Mom didn't know about at first," Emma said, her voice deadly quiet but echoing perfectly through the speakers.
"Dad," Emma continued, tilting her head. "Why did you transfer twelve million dollars from your clients' pension funds into a shell company in the Cayman Islands last Tuesday?"
The entire ballroom erupted into a chaotic, horrified uproar.
The wealthy guests in the crowd weren't just socialites. Half of them were Mark’s biggest hedge fund investors. When they heard the words pension funds and Cayman Islands, the public humiliation of a divorce instantly transformed into a massive, panic-inducing financial scandal.
