Chapter 4 - The Medical File
Matteo’s jaw literally unhinged.
The box didn't contain a threat, a weapon, or a piece of jewelry. It contained a neatly folded, highly classified, heavily stamped medical document from the most elite private fertility clinic in the country.
A tight close-up captured Matteo violently unfolding the heavy paper. His dark eyes aggressively scanned the clinical text, his natural micro-expressions shifting from confusion to profound, unadulterated shock. All the color violently drained from his face, leaving him looking like a terrified ghost.
To understand the absolute, unhinged horror freezing the blood in Matteo's veins, one had to look at his medical history. Exactly ten years ago, long before he met Olivia or Serena, Matteo had been brutally injured in a massive syndicate shootout. He had survived, but the catastrophic internal trauma had left him with a deeply buried, fiercely protected secret.
The medical document in his hand was his own heavily guarded biological profile.
It explicitly, undeniably confirmed that Matteo Bellini was completely, irreversibly sterile. He had absolutely zero physical capacity to father a child, and he had known this absolute truth for a decade.
Matteo physically stopped breathing. The warm, golden lighting of the hotel suite suddenly felt incredibly freezing.
He slowly lowered the medical document, his dark, lethal eyes locking entirely onto Serena's heavily pregnant stomach.
If Matteo was completely sterile, then the child growing inside the young, arrogant mistress was absolutely, undeniably not his. She had maliciously lied to him, trying to trap the wealthiest mafia boss in the city with another man's baby to secure a massive, multi-million-dollar payout.
