Chapter 12 - The First Drawing Went on Heather’s Desk, Not the Refrigerator

Heather asked Brielle what she wanted done with the original drawing.

Throw it away?

Keep it?

Brielle said:

“You keep it.”

Heather expected her to say refrigerator.

Instead:

“Put it somewhere you’ll see it when you’re busy.”

So Heather placed it inside a clear folder on her desk.

Not as punishment.

Not as family decoration.

As a reminder.

Whenever work piled up and Toby called from another room and Brielle said:

“Mom, can I talk to you?”

Heather looked at the drawing.

The girl outside the house.

Then answered more carefully.

Sometimes she still had to say:

“Give me ten minutes.”

But now she returned in ten minutes.

That difference rebuilt more trust than any speech.
