Chapter 7 - The Bouquet Became Its Own Problem

For the first week, most conversations centered on money.

Then Caroline asked me:

“What do you want to do about what happened in the suite?”

I knew exactly what she meant.

The bouquet.

The strike.

Julian had not punched me.

Had not continued.

Had not seriously injured me.

But he had used an object in anger against my face and shoulder.

One time.

That was enough to matter.

I made a formal incident report through hotel security.

The hallway camera showed Julian entering with the bouquet.

It did not capture inside the suite.

My photographs documented the redness afterward.

Julian did not deny it.

That surprised everyone.

His statement was simple:

“I struck Audrey with the bouquet once. I was angry. She did not attack me. It was not self-defense.”

Reading those words made me cry.

Not because they repaired anything.

Because at least he was not going to make me fight over reality too.

He accepted the legal consequences that followed.

No dramatic prison sentence.

No sensational trial.

The matter resolved through a misdemeanor process, counseling requirements, and a protective no-contact period that I requested while deciding what came next.

Julian never blamed the flowers.

Never said:

“It was only a bouquet.”

That mattered.

The roses were soft.

The act was not.
