Chapter 7 - Adam Apologized to Diane Before Rachel Forgave Him
Adam met Diane with separate attorneys present a week later.
Not because they were suing each other immediately.
Because emotions were too volatile for another private confrontation.
He spoke first.
“I should not have slapped you.”
Diane looked surprised.
“You saw what I did.”
“Yes.”
“I had Rachel by the hair.”
“When I slapped you, you had already released her and I was standing between you.”
Diane said nothing.
Adam continued.
“I was furious. I wanted to hurt you.”

No self-defense mythology.
Diane nodded slowly.
Then:
“Do you want me to apologize for grabbing her?”
“Yes.”
“And the test?”
“That is separate.”
Diane’s expression hardened.
“She had no right to hide conversations with another man.”
Adam answered:
“She should have told me. I still made my own choice.”
That was important.
He was done letting Diane become the explanation for every mistake he made.
Then he told her:
“You are not seeing Noah until Rachel and I both agree.”
Diane laughed bitterly.
“You’re keeping my grandson from me.”
“No.”
He held her gaze.
“We are setting a boundary after you physically attacked his mother while she was holding him.”
Specific.
Not revenge.
Then:
“You knew the paternity result. You knew he was my son. You kept calling him a trap anyway.”
Diane looked away.
Adam continued.
“This was never about whether Noah was mine.”
No answer.
“It was about whether Rachel was good enough for you.”
Still nothing.
Then the hardest boundary.
Diane had a key to the lakehouse and their city home.
Both were returned.
No surprise visits.
No contact with Rachel directly.
No using relatives to pressure them.
Diane agreed reluctantly.
Then Rachel learned Adam had apologized for the slap.
