Chapter 8 - Margaret Did Not Actually Make Victoria Penniless

The line Mom shouted sounded dramatic.
“Now you get to learn what having nothing feels like.”
The reality was more precise.
Victoria did not wake up homeless.
My mother could not legally seize Victoria’s personal property because she was angry.
The eighteen million dollars was never Victoria’s.
What Mom froze was all Carter-family access connected to my trust.
Pending a formal fiduciary review.
That mattered because Victoria had been counting on several expected transactions.
A trust-backed family investment.
A bridge arrangement Daniel had preliminarily discussed.
Household payments routed through the Carter family office.
All stopped.
Immediately.
The freeze also notified the independent trustee that coercion had occurred.
That meant no future Carter-affiliated investment could be approved until the conflict was reviewed.
Victoria had spent months acting as though the eighteen million dollars were sitting behind a door she merely needed to unlock.
The slap proved why the door existed.
Mom explained that to Daniel that same night.
He stared at his phone.
“So the whole account is locked?”
“For Carter-linked instructions.”
“My own accounts?”
“Yours remain yours.”
Daniel looked toward Victoria.
“Then why does my screen say eighteen million frozen?”
“Because your access portal is connected to Emily’s trust view.”
Victoria looked furious.
Mom added:
“You were never losing eighteen million dollars tonight, Victoria.”
She paused.
May you like
“You were losing the fantasy that it belonged to you.”
That was the sentence that finally made Victoria sit down.
