Chapter 6 - Anna’s Fake Resignation Solved One Problem for Selene
When Selene learned Anna had contacted the pediatrician, she confronted her privately.
Anna recorded part of that confrontation on her phone.
At the time, nobody knew.
Selene said:
“You are an employee. You don’t get to interfere in my marriage.”
Anna replied:
“This is about Piper.”
Selene’s voice sharpened.
“Piper is exactly why you need to leave.”
Then came the threat.
Selene accused Anna of mishandling medication records.
Said she could report her for professional misconduct.
Claimed Tristan would believe his wife over a nanny.
Anna panicked.
She left the house that night.
But she did not resign.
The next morning, Selene accessed the household computer Anna sometimes used for schedules.
Using Anna’s still-saved email credentials, she sent the resignation message.
Then deleted the sent copy locally.
Tristan believed it.
Anna, meanwhile, stayed with her sister in another state.
She was frightened.
Embarrassed.
And uncertain how much proof she actually had.
That hesitation cost everyone months.
She tried twice to contact Tristan directly.
Both messages went to a phone number Selene had access to through their shared family-device account.
Neither reached him.
Eventually Anna stopped trying.
Until she learned something new.
Selene had resumed discussions about sending Piper away for the summer.
Anna decided silence was no longer defensible.

So she came back.
