That distinction made Selene’s plan more coherent.
She had stocked the room.
Bottled water.
Packaged food.
Blankets.
Battery lights.
A portable toilet.
The hidden room had a narrow ventilation duct.
This was not a spontaneous imprisonment.
Selene had prepared.
But her goal was not murder.
She wanted information.
Specifically:
Where were Anna’s copies?
Who else had them?
Had the pediatrician been contacted again?
Had Tristan received anything?
Selene entered the room twice during the first three days.
Each time she demanded the same thing.
“Give me the backup.”
Anna refused.
Selene promised:
“You tell me where it is, you walk out.”
Anna did not trust her.
Then Tristan unexpectedly returned from a business trip four days early.
That disrupted Selene’s plan.
The mansion became active.
Staff returned.
Piper stopped staying with Selene’s sister and came home.
Selene could no longer move openly in and out of the storage room without being noticed.
So she reduced visits.
Water became rationed.
Food became inconsistent.
Anna weakened.
Selene kept telling herself she needed only one more day.
Then another.
That was how an already serious crime became even worse.
