Chapter 7 - Anna Returned Because She Finally Had Proof Selene Could Not Explain Away
Anna did not return to the mansion empty-handed.
Over those eight months, she had preserved:
Photos of Selene’s prescription bottle.
Dates of Piper’s unexplained sleepiness.
Copies of household medication logs.
A recording of their confrontation.
And an email from Piper’s pediatrician confirming the child’s symptoms did not match any prescribed treatment.
Still, the evidence was circumstantial.
Then Anna’s sister found something more important.
A voice memo Anna had forgotten she recorded during a household staff meeting months earlier.
Selene was speaking to a private educational consultant.
Her exact words were:
“Tristan will never agree while he thinks Piper is normal. He needs to see that keeping her home is hurting everyone.”
The consultant replied:
“I can only evaluate documented behavior.”
Selene said:
“Then there will be documented behavior.”
That sentence changed Anna’s mind.
She contacted Selene first because she made one terrible judgment call.
She wanted to give her a chance to stop before involving Tristan and authorities.
Selene agreed to meet.
At the mansion.
Quietly.
Anna arrived eleven days before Piper found the wall.
She expected confrontation.
Maybe threats.
Maybe denial.
What she did not expect was Selene leading her into the old storage wing under the excuse that she wanted to show her where some of Anna’s old belongings had been boxed.
Behind the wardrobe, the old storm-room entrance was already exposed.
Selene had discovered it during renovations.
Anna stepped inside.
Selene closed the metal door.

Then locked it.
