Chapter 11 - Emily Did Not Want Celeste Destroyed
I expected Emily to demand everything.
Removal.
Lawsuit.
Public exposure.
She surprised me.
“I want the letters withdrawn.”
“Done.”
“I want written confirmation the house isn’t under forced sale.”
“Done.”
“I want my legal expenses reimbursed.”
“Absolutely.”
Then:
“I want Sadie kept away from Celeste.”
That was non-negotiable.
I agreed.
“What else?”
Emily looked exhausted.
“Nothing.”
I stared at her.
“She humiliated your daughter.”
“I know.”
“You don’t want revenge?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m tired.”
That answer was more honest than any dramatic speech.
People experiencing prolonged conflict often do not want spectacular punishment.
They want the pressure to stop.
The letters stopped.
The board corrected the record.
Emily’s reasonable legal fees were reimbursed from my personal funds first while internal responsibility was sorted out later.
Not because I personally issued the letters.
Because my neglected delegation helped make them possible.
