Chapter 2 - The Invisible Threat

Snip. Snip.
Clarissa didn't just give Nadia a haircut. She completely butchered it. She chopped uneven, jagged chunks from Nadia's head, deliberately ensuring it could not be disguised as grooming. It was a brand. A physical reminder of absolute ownership.
Clarissa dropped the final severed section onto the floor. "There. Now perhaps we understand one another."
Nadia’s eyes remained locked on the pale tiles. She didn't scream. Seven years of service had taught her exactly what happened to people who challenged the powerful without proof.
Clarissa turned and strutted out of the greenhouse, leaving the two frightened employees weeping for their friend. Nadia didn't let them help her. She dropped to her knees and quietly, meticulously gathered every single strand of her own hair from the floor, refusing to let Clarissa order someone else to sweep away the evidence of her cruelty.
But Clarissa’s reign of terror wasn't just limited to Nadia.
Over the past four months, ever since moving into the estate, Clarissa had been systematically destroying the staff. She had fired a driver for opening the wrong door. She had intentionally spilled dark cosmetic dye across Nadia’s uniform to make her look incompetent in front of Theodore. She had even mocked Mila’s sign language.
The worst offense involved Juny, a twenty-two-year-old kitchen assistant.
Clarissa had accused Juny of destroying a shipment of unreleased cosmetics stored on the estate, threatening to press criminal charges unless Juny quietly resigned. Juny had wept in the pantry, swearing she had never touched the boxes.
Nadia knew exactly what Clarissa was doing. She was isolating Theodore by removing his loyal, long-standing staff and replacing them with her own terrified puppets.
