Chapter 1 - The Staircase Mockery
The sprawling, ultra-luxurious mansion of the Castalano family was a breathtaking display of absolute wealth and terrifying underworld power. During the grand engagement gala, hundreds of elite socialites, corrupt politicians, and high-ranking syndicate bosses mingled beneath massive crystal chandeliers. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume, imported cigars, and vintage champagne.
But the sophisticated, elegant atmosphere was suddenly, violently shattered near the base of the sweeping marble grand staircase.
Camille Whitmore, a glamorous twenty-nine-year-old blonde woman wearing a breathtakingly expensive, custom-made ivory silk evening gown, completely lost her temper. She was the hostess of the evening, the newly announced fiancée of the most feared mafia boss in the city. And she was absolutely furious that her perfect aesthetic had been ruined by the presence of a child.
Camille suddenly stormed across the polished marble floor, her expensive heels clicking aggressively as she marched directly toward the grand staircase. She stopped just two steps up, her manicured finger pointing aggressively like a weapon.
Nearby wealthy guests immediately stopped their hushed conversations, turning their heads to stare at the commotion.
Standing frozen on the marble step was a tiny, seven-year-old girl named Lucia. She was absolutely adorable, with fair, rosy skin and wide, terrified blue eyes. But she didn't belong at a billionaire's gala. She was wearing a very simple, obviously handmade, and heavily patched yellow cotton dress.
"Look at this maid’s filthy little daughter!" Camille shouted loudly, her voice dripping with pure, unadulterated, and deeply disgusted elitism, ensuring that the entire surrounding crowd heard her cruel insult.
