Chapter 5 - The Silent King

James Castalano was forty years old, and he was the absolute, undisputed, and most terrifying apex predator in the entire American criminal underworld.

He was a powerfully built, broad-shouldered man wearing an impeccably tailored, pitch-black designer suit. His jawline was sharp, his dark hair flawlessly styled, and his presence alone commanded absolute, unquestioned submission from every single billionaire, politician, and hitman in the room.

James was standing just five feet away from the grand staircase, his large, powerful hand slowly releasing the heavy crystal champagne glass he had just slammed onto the marble table.

He wasn't yelling. He wasn't waving his arms. But his intense, piercing dark eyes were locked completely, exclusively onto his blonde fiancée, staring at her with a cold, dead, and utterly terrifying intensity that made the temperature in the massive ballroom absolutely plummet.

Camille swallowed hard, her throat suddenly entirely dry. She had spent the last six months playing the role of the perfect, sophisticated mob wife, fully believing she had completely secured her position of absolute power beside the king. She thought James would entirely support her decision to discipline the lowly, insubordinate domestic staff.

She was entirely, catastrophically wrong.

James didn't say a single word to her. He didn't even acknowledge her pathetic, stammering attempt to explain herself.

He slowly, deliberately stepped completely around Camille, completely dismissing the glamorous woman in the ivory gown as if she were absolutely nothing more than a piece of irritating furniture blocking his path.
