Chapter 2 - The Stolen Ghost

The cinematic realism of the crushing, absolute silence paralyzed the head table.
A tight close-up captured Lucas's face. The arrogant, cold annoyance instantly vanished. His expression violently dropped, leaving him utterly stunned.
He stared at the nine-year-old girl in the white dress. Her big, expressive eyes. The exact, unmistakable curve of her jawline. The familiar tilt of her head. It was like looking into a living, breathing mirror of his own past.
Before Lucas could process the sheer impossibility of the moment, a frantic commotion broke out near the ballroom entrance.
"Lily!" a desperate, panicked voice shrieked.
A wide shot captured a woman rushing frantically across the polished marble floor. It was Jessica. She wore a stunning, pale silk gown, but her face was completely drained of color. She sprinted toward the head table, her hands flying up to cover her mouth in absolute, paralyzing shock as she saw exactly who her daughter was talking to.
"Lily, no," Jessica gasped, completely out of breath as she reached the table. She desperately grabbed her daughter's hand, pulling the little girl behind her silk gown, trying to shield her from the billionaire.
Lucas slowly stood up from his heavy mahogany chair. The blood violently left his face.
He didn't look at the little girl anymore. He stared directly at the beautiful woman trembling in front of him.
