Chapter 5 - The Toxic Matriarch

The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing betrayal paralyzed Lucas.

His own mother hadn't just ruined his wedding. She had stolen a decade of his life, stolen his true love, and actively robbed him of the chance to be a father to his only child.

Lucas slowly turned his head. Sitting at the VIP table, wearing heavy diamonds and an arrogant scowl, was Eleanor.

The sixty-year-old matriarch had watched the entire exchange. She didn't look guilty. She looked incredibly, profoundly annoyed that her perfect, pristine high-society gala was being ruined by the sudden appearance of the woman she had banished ten years ago.

"Security, remove this hysterical woman and her brat," Eleanor snapped loudly, waving her manicured hand in the air. "They are trespassing."

The guards didn't move. They looked at Lucas.

Lucas didn't yell. The agonizing grief in his chest instantly vaporized, violently replaced by a cold, absolute, and entirely demonic fury. He walked slowly toward his mother's table, his polished shoes clicking sharply against the marble floor.

"You forged the letter," Lucas stated clinically, his voice cutting through the room like a frozen blade. "You told me she sold me out."

"I did what I had to do to protect this family's legacy, Lucas!" Eleanor scoffed, entirely unapologetic. "Look at her! She is weak! That child is a mistake! You are a billionaire CEO because I removed the distraction from your life!"

👉 Eleanor thought her son would eventually thank her, completely unaware that he was about to financially execute her.
