Chapter 3 - The Ghost Room

"Dante, what are you talking about?" Victoria demanded, her voice rising shrilly as she tried to regain control. "I just told you what happened! Why are you questioning a maid instead of listening to your wife?"
Dante finally turned his full, terrifying attention to Victoria.
"Because, Victoria," Dante stated coldly, the cinematic realism of his absolute dominance crushing the air in the room. "I had the conservatory demolished three months ago to expand the security bunker. The door you claim she walked into doesn't exist."
All the color violently drained from Victoria’s perfectly contoured face. She physically staggered backward, her high heels scraping against the hardwood floor.
She had lied. And she had been caught flawlessly.
"I... I meant the patio doors!" Victoria stammered frantically, sweating profusely in her expensive red dress. "I must have misspoken! It was the patio!"
Dante didn't entertain her pathetic scrambling. He looked back at me, his dark eyes demanding the absolute truth.
"Tell me who hit you, Julia," Dante commanded softly, but with the undeniable authority of an executioner. "If you lie to me to protect her, you pack your bags tonight."
Tears finally spilled from my good eye. The suffocating weight of the last three weeks finally broke me.
"It was her brother, sir," I whispered, my voice trembling as I pointed directly at Victoria. "Marcus."
