Chapter 4 - The Brother's Debt

"Marcus?" Dante repeated, his jaw locking so tightly the muscles ticked beneath his beard.
"You lying bitch!" Victoria shrieked like a banshee, lunging toward me.
She didn't make it a single step. Dante’s hand shot out with blinding, terrifying speed, grabbing her by the throat of her red dress and violently slamming her backward into the mahogany table.
"Keep talking, Julia," Dante ordered, not taking his eyes off his terrified wife.
"Marcus came to the service entrance this morning, sir," I cried, wiping my face. "He demanded the security codes to the master safe. He said Victoria promised to give him a million dollars in bearer bonds from your private vault to pay off his gambling debts to the Russian syndicate."
Dante’s eyes turned pitch black.
"I refused to give him the codes," I sobbed, the memory of the violence washing over me. "I told him I would call your security team. He grabbed me by the hair and punched me in the face. Victoria came downstairs and saw him do it."
"And what did my wife do?" Dante whispered, the sheer doom in his voice paralyzing the entire room.
"She handed him the bonds," I stated clearly. "And she told me if I ever told you the truth, she would have Marcus put me in the ground."
The silence in the grand ballroom was absolute, deafening, and terrifying.
Victoria hadn't just covered up an assault on an innocent employee. She had actively conspired with her degenerate brother to rob the most dangerous mafia boss in the city.
