Chapter 9 - THE TWINS AFTER THE SYRINGES

Recovery moved differently for each sister.

Olivia feared medicine.

Every cup.

Every syringe.

Every doctor.

Emma feared sleep.

She checked Olivia’s breathing at night until exhaustion made her ill.

Therapists helped separate responsibility.

Emma had saved her sister.

She did not have to keep saving her every hour.

Julia created routines.

Medication given openly.

Labels read aloud.

Questions encouraged.

No locked cabinets.

No secret doors.

At ten, Olivia asked whether their father loved them.

Julia answered carefully.

“He may have felt love. He also chose control and harm.”

The twins learned that emotion did not cancel action.

At twelve, Emma asked to see the police-station footage.

She watched herself push the syringe across the counter.

Small.

Soaked.

Terrified.

Then Olivia collapse.

Emma stopped the video.

“I looked like a kid.”

May you like

“You were a kid,” Julia said.

That truth took years to accept.
