Chapter 6 - The Maid's Evidence

It was Maria, the young housekeeper, and she was holding little Lily’s hand tightly.
Maria didn't look terrified anymore. She looked absolutely furious. In her free hand, she held a small, clear glass vial with a black rubber stopper, half-filled with a clear liquid.
"He isn't paranoid, Mr. Sterling!" Maria shouted, her voice echoing off the marble floors.
Vanessa let out a high-pitched, horrific gasp. She physically staggered backward, her high heels scraping against the floor.
"Lily saw her putting drops into your meals all week," Maria explained to the shocked crowd of billionaires and politicians. "I didn't believe her because she’s just a child. But when Vanessa threatened her in the hallway tonight, I went up to her private dressing room and searched her designer bags. I found this hidden inside the lining of her purse."
Maria held the glass vial high in the air.
"It's a concentrated, untraceable cardiac paralytic," Ethan stated coldly, projecting his voice across the silent ballroom. "She was micro-dosing me to mimic liver failure. That champagne glass she's holding contains the final, lethal dose. She planned to watch me die of a heart attack tonight so she could inherit my entire company before the wedding."
The cinematic realism of the absolute, crushing evil in the room paralyzed every single guest.
"It's a lie!" Vanessa wailed hysterically, completely abandoning her elegant facade. Tears ruined her flawless makeup. "The maid planted it! She hates me! I'm innocent!"
