Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Vow

Adrian closed his eyes, leaning his face gently into his daughter’s tiny hand. The physical touch sent a shockwave of pure, overwhelming love through his entire body.
He slowly stood up, towering over them once again. But this time, he wasn't blocking Elena’s path as a threat. He was standing as an impenetrable, unbreakable shield between his family and the rest of the world.
He looked directly into Elena’s eyes, the fear in her expression finally melting away, replaced by the deep, enduring love that had never truly died.
Adrian reached out, gently pulling Elena and Mara into his broad, muscular chest. He wrapped his arms around them so tightly it was as if he was trying to fuse their souls back together. Elena let out a soft, shuddering breath, resting her head against his crisp white shirt, finally feeling safe for the first time in half a decade.
Adrian kissed the top of Elena's dark hair, his jaw setting with fierce, absolute conviction.

"You are never running from me again," Adrian whispered, his voice deadly quiet, completely absolute, and filled with an eternal promise of protection. "Because I will burn the entire world to ash before I ever let anyone hurt you."
If you were Elena, would you have found the strength to forgive Adrian for being blind, or would the five years of running be too much to forget?
