Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Matriarch

"Adrian, please!" Victoria shrieked, her aristocratic composure completely shattering. She backed away frantically, her high heels slipping on the polished marble. "I raised you! I protected your father's empire! You owe me!"
"You stole my wife," Adrian said, stepping slowly toward her, his voice a demonic, vibrating growl. "You stole five years of my daughter's life. You owe me a debt that you will pay in blood."
He didn't raise his hand. He didn't have to.
Adrian snapped his fingers.
Four of his most elite, heavily armed personal guards detached themselves from the shadows. They didn't grab Elena. They lunged directly at Victoria. The massive men grabbed the screaming matriarch by the arms of her glittering gold gown, violently wrenching her wrists behind her back.
"No! Let me go! I am the queen of this family!" Victoria wailed, thrashing in pure humiliation in front of the elite New York socialites she had ruled over for a decade.
"You are nothing," Adrian stated coldly. "Seize her assets. Burn her offshore accounts to the ground. And lock her in the subterranean holding cells until I decide exactly how to dismantle the rest of her miserable life."
The guards dragged the shrieking, weeping woman backward across the marble floors. Her cries echoed through the grand ballroom until the heavy oak doors slammed shut behind her, plunging the gala into a stunned, absolute silence.
