Chapter 10 - The Deadly Vows

Luca looked toward his oldest friend. “Why, Adrian?”

Adrian wouldn't answer. He just buried his face in his hands, his shoulders shaking.

Allison’s voice broke as she delivered the final, devastating blow. “Because there was something Vanessa desperately wanted Adrian to do during the wedding reception.”

Vanessa whispered, falling to her knees on the marble floor. “Please, Allison. They’ll kill me.”

But Allison didn't look away from the mafia boss. She reached across the expensive white tablecloth and quietly placed her trembling hand over Luca’s.

“Luca, I didn't come here tonight to save my marriage,” Allison said, tears pouring down her face.

He remained perfectly still. “Then why did you come, Allison?”

“Because when Adrian hesitated to help her, Vanessa told him she’d easily find someone else in the syndicate to pull the trigger,” Allison cried.

Luca’s facial expression instantly changed from shock to pure, lethal realization. “Help her do what?”

Allison looked down at the sobbing, pathetic woman in the red dress. Then, she whispered the truth that shook the very foundation of the Moretti empire.

“Ask your beautiful fiancée why she insisted that Adrian—your oldest, most trusted friend—be the only one standing directly behind you when you make your wedding vows.”

Luca slowly turned toward his best friend. The betrayal radiating from him was palpable. “Adrian?”

His friend looked at Vanessa sobbing on the floor. Then, Adrian lowered his eyes, tears streaming down his own face, and whispered the words that made every single guest at the table stop breathing.

“Because, Luca... she never intended for that ceremony to end with you as her husband. She wanted me to take you out at the altar so we could take over the family.”

The entire dining room erupted into chaos. Luca’s heavily armed security team immediately flooded the room, their weapons drawn.

Luca didn't yell. He didn't scream. He simply stood up, towering over the two people he had trusted most in the world.

“Take them to the basement,” Luca ordered his guards, his voice as cold as the grave. “Call the tribunal. The families will decide their fate by morning.”

Vanessa shrieked, kicking and fighting as two massive guards dragged her out of the dining room, her pristine red gown ruined. Adrian didn't fight at all. He just hung his head in shame as the cuffs clicked around his wrists, his life entirely over.

When the screaming faded, Luca turned to Allison. He ensured she kept half of Adrian’s legitimate business assets, setting her up comfortably for the rest of her life. She walked out of that mansion with her head held high, leaving her cheating, murderous husband to his fate.

As for me?

Luca kept his promise. I didn't lose my job. In fact, he promoted me to Head of Household Staff the very next morning. He personally paid off my mother's entire medical debt, ensuring she had the best nurses in Chicago. I never had to worry about an electric bill ever again.

And Vanessa? Let’s just say, she never got to wear a white wedding dress.

Do you think Adrian deserved the same mafia punishment as Vanessa, or was he just manipulated by an evil woman?
