Chapter 3 - The Double Heartbeat

Dr. Harrison, a distinguished physician in his late fifties with neatly styled silver-gray hair, stepped out of the examination room. He wore a crisp white coat over a light blue shirt, holding a white medical printout in his hands.
His serious professional expression revealed genuine, deep concern as he looked directly at the towering mafia boss.
"Mr. Russo," Dr. Harrison said calmly, his voice echoing in the quiet marble corridor. "We're concerned about the babies."
A tight, cinematic close-up captured Dante’s sharp face. His dark eyebrows rose. His breathing suddenly, violently stopped. His previously commanding, intimidating expression transformed into absolute, earth-shattering disbelief.
He slowly looked from the doctor toward Emily's massive pregnant stomach, then back to the doctor.
"Babies?" Dante whispered, his deep voice cracking.
An extreme close-up focused on the ultrasound printout as Dr. Harrison gently raised it into Dante's view.
There wasn't just one blurry grayscale image. There were two. Two distinct, perfectly formed developing infants resting side-by-side.
"Twins, Mr. Russo," Dr. Harrison confirmed firmly. "But her blood pressure is dangerously high, she is severely malnourished, and the physical stress she has been subjected to is highly alarming for a woman carrying twins at eight months."
The cinematic realism of the moment crushed the air out of the corridor.
