Chapter 9 - The King's Apology

Dante didn't stand over her. The terrifying, cold mafia king completely vanished.
He dropped to both knees right on the polished marble floor, entirely ignoring his expensive suit. He gently wrapped his massive, tattooed arms around Emily’s waist, carefully avoiding putting any pressure on her heavily pregnant stomach. He buried his face against the humiliating white lace apron she had been forced to wear.
"I am so incredibly sorry, Emily," Dante choked out, tears finally breaking through his hardened facade. "I was blind. I let a monster into our home, and I left you completely unprotected. I will spend the rest of my life making this right. I swear to you."
Emily slowly lowered her trembling hand, gently resting it on his thick dark hair.
For the first time in six months, she finally felt the absolute, undeniable security of her husband's protection. The tears she cried now weren't out of fear; they were tears of profound relief.
"We're having twins, Dante," Emily whispered, her voice cracking with emotion.
Dante looked up, a beautiful, genuine smile finally breaking across his rugged face. He gently kissed her stomach, completely ignoring the degrading uniform, treating her like the absolute queen she was.
Dr. Harrison cleared his throat softly from the doorway.
"If you don't mind, Mr. Russo," Dr. Harrison said gently. "I'd like to admit your wife for a few days of proper rest and nutrition before the babies arrive."
