Chapter 4 - THE ACCIDENT FILE
Harrison had another reason for attending.
He no longer believed the crash was accidental.
During surgery, he found a small shard embedded near Victoria’s lower spine.
Not glass.
Not car metal.
A fragment of ceramic brake component.
The vehicle manufacturer used steel.
A private mechanical report later showed the brake line had been altered with a heat-sensitive insert designed to fail after prolonged driving.
The report disappeared from the insurance file.
Harrison kept a copy.
Why?
Years earlier, before medicine, he served as a military trauma surgeon attached to a special investigative unit. He learned to preserve unusual evidence when injuries contradicted explanations.
Richard recognized the scar through Harrison’s eyebrow because they had met before.
A decade earlier, Harrison testified against a defense contractor Vane Atlantic attempted to acquire.
Richard pressured him to withdraw.
Harrison refused.
The deal collapsed.
Richard never forgot.
At the pool, recognition told Harrison something else.
Richard knew exactly who he was.
And had known before the party.
The invitation had not been accidental.
Richard wanted him present.
Why?
A respected surgeon witnessing Victoria “recovering dramatically” after falling into the pool could support the claim that she exaggerated disability.
Bradley’s joke had revealed the narrative.
She fakes paralysis.
She stages distress.
She manipulates doctors.
If Harrison reacted emotionally, Richard could call him compromised.
If he did nothing, Victoria might die.
