Chapter 5 - THE DEVICE UNDER HIS SHIRT
The waterproof recorder Harrison held against Bradley’s face contained three layers of evidence.
The first was the pool attack.
Bradley kicking the brace.
Releasing the brakes.
Shoving the chair.
Richard telling Harrison to stay back.
The second came from Victoria’s earlier recordings.
Richard speaking with Price.
“If she resists the proxy, document instability.”
Bradley laughing about loosening the wheelchair brake.
Richard discussing the accident settlement before Victoria woke.
The third came from Harrison himself.
That morning, he met privately with federal investigator Sarah Monroe.
Vane Atlantic was already under review for procurement fraud and illegal political payments.
Victoria had discovered irregular transfers weeks before the crash.
Her accident occurred the night she planned to confront the board.
The recorder had been registered as evidence before the party.
Every second transmitted to a secure receiver outside the property.
Bradley could destroy the device.
It would change nothing.
Harrison told him.
“You’re not holding the only copy.”
Bradley’s face collapsed.
Richard recovered first.
“This is assault,” he said, pointing toward Bradley’s bleeding mouth.
Harrison looked at him.
“Yes.”
The admission unsettled Richard.
No excuse.
No panic.
Harrison continued.
“And the camera will show why.”
Victoria looked toward the mansion roof.
Multiple party cameras faced the pool.
Richard controlled them.
But guests controlled their phones.
Witnesses had recorded the shove.
The punch.
The recorder.
The family could no longer erase sequence completely.
Sirens sounded beyond the gates.
Richard’s confidence vanished.
