Chapter 10 - Mallory Was Found Because Of The Dress

Mallory vanished from the hotel.

But she made one mistake.

The reception dress.

She changed out of it less than a mile away.

Investigators found part of the disguise in a trash container behind a closed retail strip.

Dress.

Hair extensions.

Makeup wipes.

Disposable shoe covers.

No Mallory.

But the dress contained alterations.

A tailor’s mark inside the hem led back to a small alterations studio.

Mallory had brought the backup gown there two weeks earlier under a false first name.

The studio had security footage.

Clear face.

Clear vehicle.

Rental-car records followed.

Then motel records.

Mallory was arrested three days after the wedding in Connecticut.

No dramatic chase.

No gunfight.

No second disguise.

Just a frightened thirty-one-year-old woman sitting in a roadside motel room with enough remaining evidence to make denial difficult.

When police showed her Claire’s video, Mallory reportedly asked:

“Did Ethan drink it?”

That question mattered.

Not because it proved every element of intent.

Because it showed she knew exactly which drink had been targeted.

Claire’s decision to record had destroyed the part of Mallory’s plan that depended on ambiguity.
