Chapter 11 - Claire Almost Lost Her Job For Breaking Protocol

The hotel initially placed Claire on administrative leave.

Guests became furious when they heard.

“How can you punish the person who saved him?”

The answer was more boring than outrage allowed.

Claire had filmed in a restricted service area against hotel policy.

She had also approached a high-profile guest directly instead of immediately escalating through security.

Under ordinary circumstances, both could be disciplinary issues.

These were not ordinary circumstances.

The hotel reviewed everything.

Claire’s supervisors concluded that her actions were reasonable given the immediate risk.

She returned to work.

The hotel also changed its procedures so staff could trigger faster security escalation when they observed suspected tampering.

I personally thanked Claire.

She refused the first check I offered her.

“I didn’t do it for money.”

“I know.”

“Then don’t make it weird.”

That made Vanessa laugh for the first time since the wedding.

Eventually we funded a hospitality-worker emergency assistance program through the hotel instead.

Claire agreed to that.

Not as payment for silence.

Not as a reward tied to testimony.

As something useful.

Because the person treated as “just an employee” had been the only person in the room who risked humiliation to protect a stranger.
