Chapter 3 - The Sick Foundation

Charlotte unlocked her phone, intending to do one final piece of administrative cleanup.
Despite the bitter betrayal of their divorce, Charlotte had maintained a shred of sympathy for Brandon’s family. For the past three years, she had been transferring $8,000 every single month to an account designated for his mother’s supposedly severe, experimental cancer treatments. Even after Brandon broke her heart and moved Brooke into the mansion, Charlotte hadn't stopped the medical payments. She wasn't a monster.
She opened her banking app to finally cancel the recurring wire transfer. But as her expression focused on the screen, something caught her sharp eyes.
A recent banking system update had unmasked the routing details, revealing the registered name of the receiving account.
It didn't belong to a hospital. It didn't belong to Brandon’s parents.
The account was registered to a private shell corporation: Crimson Horizon LLC.
Charlotte’s eyes narrowed. She tapped on the LLC’s public registry link embedded in the bank's fraud protection alert. Her heart slammed against her ribs, but her face remained a mask of sheer, restrained ice. The sole proprietor of Crimson Horizon LLC was listed in plain text.
Brooke Kensington.
Charlotte’s expression suddenly changed. The realization hit her with sickening clarity. Brandon’s mother wasn't sick. There were no experimental cancer treatments. For three years, Brandon had been emotionally manipulating Charlotte, draining her hard-earned corporate funds, and funneling the cash directly into his blonde mistress's bank account.
Charlotte had literally been funding their secret affair, Brooke's designer wardrobe, and the very baby currently wrapped in the white blanket.
Brandon noticed her sudden reaction. He saw the shift in her eyes and the way her grip tightened on the device. He stepped forward, his polished facade cracking into genuine panic.
